Santee Cooper Striper Season

The Santee Cooper Striper season is underway as of Oct 1st and good catches have been coming in. Remember there is a 3 fish creel limit with a length limit of 26 inches.  The fish are schooling so be on the look out for flocks of seagulls feeding on shad which the stripers chase to the surface.  The stripers also like to school at creek mouths and along the edges of the diversion canal.

When a school is spotted you will often see many other boats coming in for the fish.  Be careful not to run over the school and scare the fish down.  Be curtous of other other fishermen and do not infringe on their space.  When fishing the surface gizzard shad work well as well as water lures or poppers. Also drifting in these areas, jigging the bottom with spoons and bucktails works well too.  Check out our Fishing Services page for a list of fishing guides if you a looking for some guided fishing trips for striped bass on the Santee Cooper Lakes.
